Nocturne No. 5 in B-flat, H. 37

J. Field (1782-1837)

John Field, an Irish pianist who made his career in Russia, invented the nocturne: a singing melody over wide, pedalled left-hand arpeggios. Chopin took the idea further. Learn the left hand alone until its leaps are secure and smooth.
