"Moonlight" Sonata, Op. 27 No. 2: I. Adagio sostenuto

L. van Beethoven (1770-1827) - Sonata quasi una fantasia (1801)

Beethoven called it a 'sonata like a fantasy'; the name 'Moonlight' came from a critic after his death. Triplets flow through the whole movement under a slow melody in the top voice: the melody sings, the triplets stay soft. Beethoven asks for the pedal throughout: change it with every harmony.
